Proyect #3

Offering medical aid to refugees

Dunkirk

The project:

A pop-up clinic offering medical care to refugees waiting in Calais (France) to cross the English Channel.

The situation:

Around Calais, many refugees are living in forests or under bridges. They are often subject to police raids, after which, they can lose everything they have in an instant.

The team:

Four volunteer medics- two doctors and two nurses- and two seasoned coordinators. The volunteer doctors and nurses typically stay for around two weeks at a time, making it easier to find volunteers.

The intervention:

We bought a van to use as a consultation room, providing better protection from the weather, and more privacy, than a tent. We financed all the furniture for the volunteers quarters. We also provided a model of how this small NGO could be financially self-sufficient in the long term.
